Grain & Hoo | Kent | UK

Grain and places like it escape classification. The publicly accessible areas lack a clearly defined function which is part of its appeal. It makes no demands of the visitor who will experience the full blown impact of an Edgeland or marginal landscape as a place as opposed to in-between space: vulnerability, a sense that significant but unknown and momentous events have recently occurred or are about to, the present with an unbroken film set like tension, juxtapositions of mundane elements like rubble, litter and decay taking on a threatening appearance.
